Capsule 01: The Return — The States

The States are how we feel. Sometimes we need a little help coming back to ourselves.

Capsule 01 is our first formula from INKLING Research Labs, built from affect regulation — tools from DBT and CBT for grounding, boundaries, and softness.

Three sets. One arc: ground, hold, soften. Each set includes a Practice Note — a small prompt to wear with your set for the week.

Formula 01 — Affect Regulation

ROOTED — The Grounding Set

For when you feel untethered.

ROOTED was developed by INKLING Research Labs from grounding techniques used for anxiety and overwhelm. When thoughts move too fast, your body is the first place to return to.

"Come back to here. You are supported."

The design. Soft matte taupe with a diffused earth aura. Velvety, tactile on purpose. Each thumb has a single pause point — your visual cue to breathe.

The Practice Note inside. When your mind starts to race, press your thumb to your pause point. Inhale for 4, exhale for 6. Name 3 things you can feel right now.

This set comes from psychology training and a practice of returning to stillness in faith.

ABIDE was developed by INKLING Research Labs from differentiation — the practice of knowing where you end and others begin. Boundaries aren't walls. They're clarity.

The design. A clean, structured micro-French with intentional negative space. Crisp but not harsh — clear, calm, elegant.

The Practice Note inside. Notice where you feel pulled to abandon yourself to keep the peace. What would it look like to hold your shape with grace here?

SELAH was developed by INKLING Research Labs from self-compassion and secure attachment. Selah means pause — to breathe and remember.

"You can soften and still be held."

The design. Our softest set. Milky, glazed, pearlescent — no sharp lines. Designed to look like rest feels.

The Practice Note inside. Self-compassion isn't earned, it's returned to. At the end of the day, look at your hands and ask: What would it look like to speak to myself the way I would to someone I love?

INKLING started with a simple question: What if your nails could do more than look good? What if they could help you return to yourself?

INKLING comes from years behind the nail chair, listening to women talk about anxiety, boundaries, burnout, and becoming. It was built to hold both — the artistry and the psychology.

Each INKLING set is developed in INKLING Research Labs. Each set begins with a review of literature from DBT, CBT, and attachment theory, then translates a psychological state into color, shape, and texture. It is not therapy. It is a small, wearable hint — an inkling — of the state you are stepping into.

INKLING is psychology-informed and faith-anchored. Faith in Jesus is where the practice of restoration begins. Psychology gives us language for that return. Faith is the root.

We start with a psychological concept — like grounding or differentiation — and research its clinical applications. Then we translate it into design decisions: What color feels like self-compassion? What finish feels grounding? Where does a pause point belong?
